Tour Information
Braga – Medieval Town
Once a Celtic stronghold that later fell to the Romans, Germanic invaders, 8th-century Moors, and finally to crusaders, Braga has been shaped by centuries of conquest. Yet, this charming city has retained a unique spirit of its own. Rich in parks, pilgrimage sites, and Neolithic and Celtic ruins, Braga is a town that celebrates its layered history. Your day begins with a visit to the grand 12th-century cathedral and the iconic Sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte. From there, we traverse through the ages, immersing ourselves in history and reflecting on our shared humanity and connection to the divine.
Guimarães – The Cradle of Portugal
Guimarães is historically linked to the birth of Portugal as a nation, often referred to as the “cradle of Portuguese nationality.” This small medieval village, dating back to the 10th century, is filled with magnanimous monuments, palaces, and convents. Beyond its charming historic center, the path from the castle, passing through St. Michael’s Church and the Dukes’ Palace, is a must-see.
If you have the opportunity, consider visiting or staying at the Pousada Convento da Santa Marinha—a beautifully restored convent with elegant rooms and outstanding cuisine. For those exploring northern Portugal, Guimarães is a medieval gem not to be missed.
