Fatima pilgrimage, Batalha Monastery, Nazaré fiahing village & Óbidos medieval town

This tour brings you the experience of miracles and history.

Fátima pilgrimage
The “Miracle of the Sun” is one of a series of visions said to be sent by the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children following her initial appearance in 1917. The site today has become one of the largest pilgrimage sites in Europe. Here you can see the Apparition Chapel, the Church, light a candle and pay your respects to our lady of Fatima.

Batalha Monastery
This impressive 14th century monastery was built by King John I of Portugal in gratitide to the Virgin Mary after victory in an against-all-odds battle. This grand feat of architecture is one of the most elaborate in all of Portugal. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.  A must for lovers of architecture and those appreciating the tangible form of devotion.

Nazaré fishing village – home of the “100 foot wave”.
On a cliff overlooking the fishing village of Nazare stands a chapel built to commemorate the Virgin Mary who intervenes in saving the life of a 12th century knight. But the story begins much further back … and continues on into the modern day.  Today Nazaré is still a charming fishing village, a place of pilgrimage, and a beach town known for its record-breaking big waves. The views from here are absolutely spectacular. As is the seafood of course.

Óbidos medieval town
This charming medieval town is nothing short of romantic and charming. Offered as a gift to a 13th century king’s new bride this village has flourished in the arts since then. Here you can experience life as it was centuries past. Musicians beckon you through the grand arch and vendors sell sweets made from locally grown fruits and harvests.  Inside the village you will pass friendly artisan shops, small medieval tavernas, sweets stands, and quaint houses with ancient vines tangling over tiled roofs, and if lucky you may stumble upon one of the small themed faires.  The entire village is wrapped completely within the castle walls — you can walk them if you’d like and lookout over the vast landscape. This unique village is a must see on anyone’s Portugal list.
